I hope you are enjoying Spain. I just flew home from Europe and could not agree more. We have become a world of traveling slobs. The most ironic observation for me is the absolute overwhelming volume of cheap fast fashion - I was in Madrid - yet most people are dressed horribly. We have access to more clothing than ever before and yet we look worse than ever before. I know I sound like a crabby old lady. Ugh
Thank you for writing this. I find travel so depressing when I see the same dreary “I don’t care” clothes. You can dress respectfully on a tiny budget. There’s no excuse!
I think what you describe is common to many aspects of life. Data tells us that people spend shed loads of money on clothes so where are they wearing them? Not anywhere I go. When I was in the world of work I'd put a bid in to a large charitable organisation for funding for an education programme. My colleague and I were invited to meet the panel in London for an informal discussion. I remember saying to my colleague that we needed to liaise about what we'd wear. She looked a bit puzzled. My reckoning was that we were going in asking for some serious money so the panel needed to look at us and see that if we got it we'd at least know how to spend it. We felt and looked confident and got the funding. Don't think you'd get an upgrade dressed in sweat pants and flip-flops.
Was thinking about your various prices about style while I was watching the film, " What's Up Doc" on UK TV. Barbra Streisand wears a pants/ trouser suit which would still look great. She definitely rocked the '70s chic.
I would like this post 10 times if I could! The flip flops, the bare feet in shared airplane space, the micro shorts (are you not cold???), tank and crop tops… You should see some of the airport outfits I see flying out of the Miami airport 😱.
