I had a hard time getting in the Christmas spirit too this year, there must be something in the air! However, I feel like the lower the expectations the better will be the outcome :)
Hi Giulia, Christmas, here at least, is so focused on gift giving that it becomes stressful. I try to avoid that kind of stress and focus on having fun with family and friends. But honestly what gets me in the spirit is decorating my home. Slowly it’s getting there. Hope you have a fantastic Christmas!
Holidays totally stress me out. But posts like these help me celebrate from a distance (metaphorically and literally) and cheer me up immensely. They're so different from when I grew up (the part that stresses me out today because I've never been able to replace my old family traditions). Thank you, you captured the spirit from a different perspective, beautifully. (And I loved Diana Vreeland, this brought back memories from my mother pouring over Vogue... this inspires me to look up and read the books you mentioned, another thank you!)
Hi Patti, I think as Giulia commented, lowering expectations helps. We feel so much pressure associated with the holidays. Instead try to focus on fun with the people you love. Start out with DV written by Vreeland. She’s a bit loose with the facts but always entertaining! Hope you have a great holiday season!!!
Thank you for the wonderful pictures of New York at the holidays! So lovely, especially the Bergdorf windows. I loathe Christmas music, a side effect of working in a year-round Christmas store for 11 years. 💕
I’ll look for the DV titles, thanks for the suggestion!
Hi Sheila, Yes I can imagine how Christmas music could lose it's appeal year round!!! When I make my Christmas playlists I mix in other music for a break.
The BG windows are always special! Thanks for checking in!
I’ve always found Diana Vreeland (no knock to Anna) to be the most innovative and interesting Vogue editor. She’s by far kept the hamster wheel running, and is still a major inspiration.
Yes, she was a true visionary, a big personality and supported so many talented photographers. I'm sure she had an ego, but was driven mainly by her passion for style. We could use someone like her today!
Agreed! I haven't actually seen the movies in years but think I'll seek them out over the winter to revisit. There is something about the full-out elegance and formal manners laced with quick wit that I love.
Lovely article as usual, Jolian.

I will make it the first! Thank you. And Merry Chistmas to you. I hope it's magical for you.

Nick, Nora and Asta - a match made in cinematic heaven.
Yes!!!! The wit and glamour is unmatched!
Books don't always transfer to the screen as we'd like but this definitely worked for me and I think still holds up well 80 plus years on.
