Hi Friends,

My daughters left on Sunday, and on Monday, old friends came to stay with me. They are living the Spanish dream with an apartment in Madrid and a loft in New York.

Sa Tuna

On Tuesday, we walked to town on the old trail, a footpath established long before cars to walk from the village of Begur to the beach at Sa Tuna, a picturesque, protected cove. It takes about 30 minutes, the first half uphill, but you’re rewarded with spectacular views.

On the way to Begur on foot

Once in town, we stopped in La Bionda, a charming boutique hotel where my friends had stayed earlier this year. Carla, the proprietor, and her sweet dog, Pepper, greeted us warmly and invited us to have a coffee on the patio.

I fell in love with the Hotel on the spot; it’s inviting and artfully showcases the building’s magnificent 17th-century architecture. La Bionda is located in the center of Begur, a sophisticated town I’ve come to love since arriving two weeks ago.

The bar and communal table

Begur is about an hour and a half by car, north of Barcelona. If you’re looking for a picturesque place to visit with beautiful beaches, history, great restaurants, and shopping, consider Begur. The downside is now I find myself constantly fantasizing about restoring a glorious old structure and living the Spanish dream myself, which unfortunately does not match my reality. Nevertheless, I’m loving every minute here, and hell, one can dream!

For more on Hotel Bionda, you can find their website here.

Here are some examples of what people are wearing in Begur.
