Runway to Real Life

Let’s start at the top of the food chain with the deep-pocketed fashion folk that can afford the current season of runway looks from top designers and bring them to (real) life. The secret is to not be crushed under the weight of a head to toe designer look, but to still look like yourself and own it.

So much of what we see on the runways never makes it to real life. It’s nice to see when there is crossover that brings a fresh look to the streets without relying on theatrics. For me, that’s a better metric for success than a viral moment. The champions of runway to real life are Miu Miu and Prada as seen in the top row above. Below we have Christian Dior, Comme des Garçons and Sacai. Interesting that they are all designed by women.

Coats

Think of coats as collectables. Even if you buy one every other year, in 10 years you’ll have 5 coats. Play the long game, and go for quality and styles with staying power. A coat is vital to your fall-winter look and should compliment what you’re wearing or even be the starting point to an outfit. That’s why it’s important to have a collection of coats you love. It’s vital not to buy the same type of coat over and over again. If you already have a long navy coat in a classic chesterfield fit look for a more boxy coat in a different color like the gray oversized coat in the upper right corner.
