It may be fun to see all the peacocking that goes on surrounding the shows during fashion weeks in various cities, but what gets me excited is to spot real people with real style. The people I’m drawn to look comfortable and natural and not as though they’re trying too hard or vying for attention. The subtleties of proportion, color mixes, and newness are what I’m interested in. Here, is my latest collection of who looks good and why. The easy trench should be thought of as an extra layer of protection when needed but mostly to be worn open and flowing, so bear in mind a longer length is key. The feeling of lightness and ease contributes to the unstudied look. The idea of another layer as a buffer between you and the world has its appeal. At least, that’s how I’ve been feeling lately. Does anyone else feel the same?
A great trench can help to wean us off our winter coats as we transition to warmer weather (god willing, here in New York). It’s also an indispensable piece to own and works over virtually everything. From left, the Greta Trench I’ve sourced for multiple clients and have owned it myself. It’s the perfect classic trench, well-made and reasonably priced. Next, this made in Italy trench is cut oversized with a more broken-in look, as in the picture of the woman on the far right. I love the double belt details of this trench but would have to make sure it worked just as well worn open. Last, this Max Mara trench has a generous cut and is drastically reduced.
