"They wanted the clout of the branded hoodies, sweatshirts, and trainers." Never really got that trend although when I was a youngster we definitely wanted genuine Levi jeans or jackets with the leather logo. Clothes with the maker's name seems a tad unsubtle but maybe that's the point. " Look at me, I've got shed loads of money so can afford to dress with zero taste". Loved your description of the Jackie bag with its changing size descriptors. Not unlike supermarket descriptions of economy and jumbo sizes. Thanks for the read. Hope you're enjoying your Spanish trip.
Thanks so much Jan. I recall the same, you had to have the right jeans, but they were relatively inexpensive, not outrageously overpriced. I leave for Spain tomorrow and I’m looking forward to a different vantage point to observe from. Stay tuned!
This was a great explanation of current trends with lack of design and garish taste. It is making me turn to younger, smaller designers like One/Of and Jennifer Klein Couture.
That’s my response as well, to support independent designers. Too much money has corrupted many of the big names. How much growth for these companies is even feasible? Thanks for contributing.

¡Te deseo un buen viaje!
¡Gracias!
This is such a delightfully diplomatic take on what has happened to Balenciaga. Especially when you consider what the Master himself would have said.
Thank you! That’s exactly what I what I was aiming for!

Excellent and informative piece - Josep Font would be an inspired choice, I hope it happens. Well done Jolain!
Hi Susie, Joseph Font is a unique talent, much like Balenciaga and as you say would be an inspired choice. One can hope! Thanks for commenting.
WERD .
I know!
Well said, Jolain. I’d love to see Balenciaga return to its love of form and Spanish roots. I’m up for a trip to Getaria, too❣️
Thank you! One can hope. Would love to make the trip with you!
