Happy 2025 everyone! I hope your new year got off to a fun and festive start. I had a wonderful holiday season but I’m looking forward to getting back to my routine and eating and drinking far less than I have been the past couple weeks.
I love looking ahead and contemplating the potential a brand new year holds. I’m excited about growing What Looks Good and looking forward to an extended stay in Spain from mid April to mid June. I’m also convinced that 2025 will be a pivotal year in fashion. Some of the patterns that have been in place since the end of the pandemic will certainly shift.
One thing I’ve learned from my many years in fashion is that it is cyclical. There are moods in the air. First, it’s subtle and then it starts to take hold and becomes a full fledged movement. The feeling then becomes dominant, stays on top for a spell, then eventually begins to wane as what once felt new and exciting begins to feel too familiar. Something new then captures the collective attention, begins to rise and the cycle starts anew. This is not a monolithic enterprise, there are multiple movements, big and small but collectively they meld and define the time.
I believe 2025 will be an inflection point for fashion, with pronounced changes on the horizon from seeds that have been planted seasons ago and are now coming to fruition. In short, it will be an exciting year!
Here’s what I’m feeling in the air; call it predictions or my own wish list for 2025 and what it means to our own wardrobes. I’ve never been one to just blindly follow the crowd but as my friend Eric said in his guest post, “Style Versus Fashion”, “Fashion is like an enormous buffet, and style is choosing what nourishes you, not just piling everything on your plate”. In the end, it’s choosing what looks and works best for you, but you have to know what’s on the menu.
