I reviewed every What Looks Good post since its inception last April in search of the 10 most significant fashion posts of 2024. Substack’s statistics make it easy to see what was most popular with readers. For the most part I agree with the wisdom of the collective community but I’ve also included a couple sleeper posts. The paid posts included have been unlocked for this story for a limited time.
I’m grateful to the entire Substack community, particularly all of you who regularly read and weigh in with comments. To all my subscribers, particularly paid subscribers; thank you so much for your support and your warm welcome to the platform. Many hours are spent conceptualizing, researching, writing and finally assembling each post. It is your support that makes this possible and for that I’m grateful.
I believe that 2025 is positioned to be a pivotal year in fashion. I’m looking forward to sharing with you my observations, discoveries and advice on navigating the information overload we all experience and editing it down to What Looks Good for you personally. I’ll continue to make recommendations, share with you great deals and seek out independent brands that are making high quality, stylish products at a fair price.
Style over fashion and quality over quantity!
1 Know Your Style Know Yourself
Let’s start at the beginning with my first post. Here, I laid the groundwork for the purpose of What Looks Good. The response was tremendous and I was shocked and delighted with the amount of views and subscriptions I garnered out of the gate. Thank you all for your encouragement, it set the stage nicely for what was to come.
2 Why I’m Not Obsessed With The Row
This is without doubt my most popular post. Everyday, I still get multiple likes on it. When I was writing it I feared I would get some push back from devotees of The Row; quite the opposite was true, confirming I wasn't the only one feeling this way.
3 Miuccia Prada’s Singular Style
This was my second post out of the gate and I still get likes on it almost daily. Miuccia Prada is an easy subject to write about. She’s a fascinating woman of principle, whose style is unique and perfectly reflects who she is.
4 Cracking The Functional Wardrobe Code
With a seasonal core wardrobe of six versatile pieces, outfit possibilities are abundant. The key is choosing the right six pieces and supporting accessories to bring it to life. In this post I walk you through the principles of building a functional core wardrobe. Spoiler alert; it’s not that hard, you just have to apply the principles outlined.
5 One Sweater Unlocks Ten Outfits
This post was a wildly popular paid post. With one sweater I was able to create ten unique outfits I otherwise could not have created. I loved it because while demonstrating how one piece can change the dynamic of your wardrobe I came up with ten sure-fire outfits I’ve come to rely on. It’s an easy formula to follow, plainly laid out in the post.
This was another very popular paid post which came as a surprise to me. In it, I was working on a personal wardrobe conundrum of weaning myself off sneakers in favor of something chicer, without giving up comfort and mobility. Guess I’m not alone here.
7 My Secret Sauce For Shopping
I picked up a slew of new paid subscribers with this post. In it, I outline seven rules to focus our shopping, make meaningful purchases that will grow our wardrobes, refine our personal style, and avoid mistake purchases.
8 The Ultimate Fall Sweater Edit
I’m a sweater girl and couldn’t live without them. It was only natural for me to create a sweater edit with some of the most essential sweater styles and shapes for a fall/winter ready wardrobe. The good news is some of my favorites are still available.
Here I reconcile how two opposing styles, minimalism and extravagance need not fight. They can be complimentary. This is a concept I believe will only gain importance in 2025.
10 New Ways To Style What You Have
In this post I explore how to add spice to your existing wardrobe by adding a key piece and statement accessories.
Honorable Mention: Is New York Fashion Week Still Relevant?
Sometimes I just have to vent about the fashion industry and voice what I believe could be done better. Many of you agreed with this post.
